Mineral County Fair Aug. 2-4

Round up those little cowpokes, folks!

Not to rustle cows, but to dance along with the live music fun led by Kelly Hughes at the Mineral County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 6:30 pm.

Don’t worry about Kelly wearing out, though. He will be back after the Saturday night rodeo, which is sponsored by the Superior Lions Club.

The nighttime fair entertainment will kick off on Thursday night with the “Nightliners” band. Also that night there will be competitive barrel racing.

Friday night, Jackie (Stevens) Noman, who was raised in the county’s west end, will be on stage as “Jackie Joleen and the Last Chance Band.” Plenty of singing and dancing will be enjoyed by all. She starts right after the rodeo in the arena.

Saturday kicks off the fair parade through Superior at 11 am. There will be kids’ games, live music on the green, bingo and other attractions. Don’t forget the Methodist Men’s pancake breakfast and the other nonprofit food vendors on the grounds.

Check out the quilt show, open class and 4-H exhibits in the 4-H Building, and visit the many commercial vendors in the area. Check out the 4-H stock sale in the afternoon. The rodeo performs again followed by Hughes and his band. Fair admission is free, and rodeo tickets can be purchased.

Bike raffle at County Fair

Living Water Bible Study will once again raffle off bikes and fishing poles during the Mineral County Fair on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 3 p.m. Kids can get free tickets during the fair parade or at 2:45 p.m. on Saturday in front of the bandstand, where the raffle will be held.

Aug. 7 STAC meeting set

A Superior Technical Assistance Committee (STAC) meeting is scheduled for Aug. 7 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. with the location yet to be determined, depending on attendance.

Respond to Ackerlund at 406-461-6354 or steve.ackerlund@bresnan.net if you plan to attend.

Free lunch for kids and adults ends July 26

Kids and adults eat free at Alberton High School until July 26 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from noon to 1 p.m. This program is sponsored by the Missoula Food Bank and community center.

Watering days

The water and sewer department in Alberton wants to remind residents that watering days coincide with their house number. Even numbered homes water on even calendar days, and odd homes water on odd days. This keeps the town water tables at a good level.

Senior meals

Superior Senior Center serves free dinners to residents who are 90 years old and older. Dinner is every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.

St. Regis Senior Center meals in July will start at a new time of 5:30 p.m. on Thursdays, and on the fourth Monday of every month, July 26 is a taco bar.

The Alberton Senior Center serves lunches each Tuesday and Thursday at noon.

Farmers markets

The Alberton Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Community Center parking lot.

The Superior Farmers Market is held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon on River Street until Sept. 26.
