Free pancake breakfast served at the St. Regis School cafeteria from 8-10 a.m. Donations accepted. Followed by a parade through town which starts at 11 a.m. Free food and fun for all ages in the park from noon-3 p.m. Free fireworks on display in the park, beginning at dusk. Bring chairs or blankets,
River Edge Resort in Alberton invites the public to celebrate Fourth of July for their 22nd annual community potluck and firework display. Enjoy free burgers and hot dogs (huge community pot luck; please bring a small side if possible) plus kids’ games, live music, karaoke and prizes.
Free lunch and reading programs for children
The Summer Program at the Park is for all children, and starts on June 14 at noon in the Eva Horning Park in Superior.
The theme this year is “Libraries Rock,” and will be featuring various kinds of music. There is no registration, and the programs begin after the free lunch at the park.
There will be, as usual, a reading program for children of all ages at the library, beginning on the same day. Patrons are to come in to the library for their folders with instructions.
Kids, adults eat free all summer
Kids and adults eat free at Alberton High School from June 5 until July 26 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 1 p.m. This is a program by the Missoula Food Bank and community center.
Senior Center dinners and lunches
Superior Senior Center serves free dinners to residents who are 90 years old and older. Dinner is every Wednesday starting at 4:30 p.m.
St. Regis Senior Center serves lunch every Thursday at noon and on the fourth Monday of every month at 6 p.m.
The Alberton Senior Center serves lunches on Tuesday and Thursday at noon.
Farmers market
The Alberton Farmers Market is held every Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Community Center parking lot.
Comments being taken on Rice Ridge Fire project
The Forest Service has completed the Rice Ridge Fire Salvage Environmental Assessment (EA). The project proposes to recover the economic value of burned timber to support local communities, reduce roadside safety hazards, and reestablish forested conditions. The 38,300-acre project area is located on the Seeley Lake Ranger District immediately north and east of Seeley Lake.
Comments on the EA will be accepted until July 11. The Lolo National Forest is requesting an Emergency Situation Determination (ESD) from the Chief of the Forest Service. An emergency situation is defined as “a situation on National Forest System lands for which immediate implementation of a decision is necessary to achieve one or more of the following: 1) relief from hazards threatening human health and safety; 2) mitigation of threats to natural resources on National Forest Service or adjacent lands; and 3) avoiding a loss of commodity value sufficient to jeopardize the agency’s ability to accomplish project objectives directly related to resource protection or restoration.”
