Lois D. Irwin

In loving memory of Lois D. Irwin who passed away peacefully May 6, 2020 in Mesa, Arizona.

Lois was born on Aug. 15, 1930 to Ethel and Oliver L. Fountain in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

She graduated from Chadron High School, Chadron, Nebraska in 1948 and went on to attend Nebraska Teachers College in Chadron, Nebraska where she earned her teaching degree.

Lois’s first teaching job was in St. Regis, Montana which is where she met the love of her life, Gerard Dale “Jerry” Irwin. They were married on Aug. 18, 1955. Jerry’s career as Northwest Airlines pilot, and later the proud owner of his own float plane, allowed them to travel extensively.

They ended up settling down in Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota where they made many dear friends with whom they shared numerous travel adventures over the years. After Jerry’s passing in 1978 Lois moved to Missoula, Montana for a brief time before deciding to move to Mesa, Arizona where she lived until her passing.

Lois was an avid reader, very skillful in solving crossword puzzles and always enjoyed an early morning round of golf.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents Ethel and Oliver, and her brother Leonard. She is survived by her nephew Paul Andre Fountain (Debbie); sister-in-law Luetta Moore (Gary), brother-in-law Tom Irwin (D.D. LaPointe) as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other family members who loved her dearly.

A celebration of life will be held at the Deborgia School House at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15.
