The American Legion Post in St. Regis has decided to march as usual even if they have to go it alone on the Fourth of July.

However, the Legion Post hopes that folks will consider joining in on their impromptu, non-sponsored parade in St. Regis at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Post Adjutant Scott Burrows said, “If you feel that the idea has merit then please pass this around. Think about what it is that we are celebrating!”

Along with the color guard leading the way, the St. Regis Volunteer Fire Department has been quickly attempting to seek approval from the Mineral County Health Department to hold the Fourth of July parade as well. An event application has to be submitted and accepted under current state and local COVID-19 regulations.

Fire Department Volunteer Kat Kittridge explained “The health department last week were the ones who reached out to us, hoping that we could help still put on something. It’s just been hard trying to get this all put together so last minute.”

June 25 the fire department received temporary approval from the health department for their parade proposal, but with reopening guidelines frequently being revised they have to wait a few more days to confirm. Kittridge noted that the fire department might hear from the health department by July 2.

“Once we find out, if we do get the go ahead, we’ll need a lot of volunteers to make this work,” Kittridge said.

Check on the Mineral County MT Community Facebook page on the days leading up to the Fourth for updates on the parade status. With questions or to help with the parade contact Kittridge at 406-241-8483.
