Titans tip Mountain Cats

Remembering the Titans may well be something the Clark Fork Mountain Cats will not want to do.

The Flint Creek Titans, in this case, struck early and often on their way to a 64-12 win over the Mountain Cats Saturday in Philipsburg.

Titan quarterback Kade Cutler got Flint Creek, a co-op team consisting of players from Drummond and Philipsburg, on the scoreboard in the first quarter when he galloped 23 yards into the end zone, giving the Titans a 6-0 lead.

Flint Creek running back Preston Metesh got in on what would become a Titan scoring festival with a pair of first quarter TD runs from one and seven yards respectively. Two successful point after runs lifted the Titans to a solid 22-0 lead as time ran out in the opening quarter.

With a stingy defense shutting down Clark Fork’s usually potent offense, the Cutler and Metesh combo would continue to light up the scoreboard in the second quarter.

Cutler threw a long 48-yard touchdown pass to Leyton Wagner in the early going of the second quarter, then ran one in from 14 yards out for another score. Before halftime, Metesh bulled over from one yard away, giving the Titans a dominating 44-0 lead and setting the 35-point rule/continuously moving game clock in motion.

Another Metesh, this time Avery, opened second-half scoring when he crossed the goal line from two yards out, upping the Titan lead to 50-0 with 8:53 to play in quarter number three.

Flint Creek would add another six points on a short touchdown pass with just under two minutes to play.

Refusing to quit, Clark Fork struck back via a 23-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Bryan Mask to Orion Plakke as the quarter came to an end.

Midway through the final quarter, Plakke threw an eight-yard touchdown to Issac Miller to make it a 56-12 game. However, Flint Creek added another long touchdown pass, this one from 42 yards out before the quarter and the scoring came to an end.

The loss dropped Clark Fork to 2-2 on the year, while Flint Creek improved to 4-0. Next on the schedule for Clark Fork is a road game against Seeley Friday night.
