Noxon hoops teams swept by Charlo

| February 3, 2021 12:00 AM

Charlo was not so cordial to visitors from Noxon this past weekend, at least on the basketball court.

The girls from Charlo were the first to make their guests feel a bit uneasy when they upended the Noxon Lady Red Devils 59-41 Saturday afternoon in a Western 14C basketball encounter.

The Charlo boys didn’t exactly put out the welcome mat either as they outscored the Red Devils boys 61-52 later that day to complete the hometown sweep.

The Lady Vikings were first to meet and greet, then defeat the visiting Lady Red Devils.

Charlo kept their season record unblemished with an early 28-5 lead after the first eight minutes of play. The Lady Vikings were led by the Fryberger girls, seniors Carlee and Conner, who each scored a game-high 21 points.

Avery Burgess led the Lady Red Devils in scoring with 12 points and was joined in double figures by Emily Brown, who scored 10.

The loss dropped Noxon to 2-2 on the year and in conference play, after a promising 2-0 start to their disrupted season.

The Noxon boys fared better overall against the Vikings, but the results were the same.

Both teams battled back and forth in the first half, which ended with the Red Devils holding a 26-25 lead at the intermission.

The host Vikings erased that lead early on in the third quarter, then began to pull away as they outscored Noxon 24-16 to take a 49-42 lead with eight minutes to play.

Noxon could not overcome that deficit as they dropped their sixth straight game.

Brody Hill and Jeriko Smith-Roach scored 16 apiece for the Red Devils, who are now 0-6 overall and in conference play.

Next upfor the Noxon teams are games this Friday at St. Regis, and home encounters with Plains the following evening.
