Bigfork may have been the big winners at last Saturday’s 7B District Championships in Eureka, but the Thompson Falls squads still have a number of talented athletes headed to this weekend’s Western B Divisional at Missoula County Public School Stadium.

For the boys, Bigfork scored 258 points while host Eureka had 104 and the Blue Hawks were third with 90.

Mission had 70 while Troy scored 16.

On the girls side, Bigfork scored 277 with the Lady Hawks the runners-up with 104. Eureka was third with 93 and Mission had 40.

Cody Burk led the boys team with two wins in the shot put and discus and a second in the javelin. Burk recorded a new personal best at 49 feet, 7 1/2 inches in the shot. His top discus effort was 141-10. His best javelin toss was 146 feet, 1 inch, also a personal best.

Justin Morgan won the 3,200-meter run and was second in the 1,600. Morgan had a personal best in the 1,600 at 4:33.40.

For the girls, sophomore Chesney Lowe came in seeded first in the javelin and didn’t look to challenge in the pole vault. But her performance proved how competition can be unpredictable at times.

Lowe entered the pole vault seeded third. Her personal best was a vault of 7 feet, 1 inch. But Lowe was working with a new pole and she had been steadily improving leading up to the district meet.

“I hit 7-6 five times in practice and then 7-9 twice right before today,” Lowe said. “Today turned out to be a pretty good day.”

Lowe won the event with a height of 8 feet, 3 inches.

Lowe finished fourth in the javelin, but she’ll have another crack at it this weekend in Missoula. Lowe was also third in the triple jump.

Senior Jody Detlaff enjoyed a good day with a win in the discus (106 feet), a second in the shot put (31-9 1/2), fourth in the high jump (4-7) and a seventh in the javelin with a personal best of 80 feet, 9 inches.

Field events begin at 11 a.m. each day and track events begin at noon.
