William Reid Thomas

William Thomas, 80, of Alberton passed away Friday, Feb. 18, 2022 at his home. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date in Ohio.

William Reid Thomas, son of Reuben and Alice (Sprague) Thomas, was born Jan. 3, 1942 in Potter County, Texas. He graduated from High School in Ohio and continued his education at The Ohio State University.

William enlisted in the Navy before graduating from OSU and served during the Cuban Missile Crisis; he was honorably discharged. He then graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Political Science. William was united in marriage with Kathy Thomas in 1967; two children were born to this union. The couple separated after 30 years of marriage.

He worked as a Disaster Coordinator for FEMA for most of his working career. He served the State of Montana with diligence and care. His hard work made Montana safer and reduced the impact of multiple disasters through his tenure.

William had a passion for travel, spending time abroad with his family at a young age and continued that passion through his whole life’s journey. He traveled all over the world; the Middle East and Asian countries being some of his favorite places.

William enjoyed hunting, fishing and Montana’s great outdoors. He hunted almost every game possible in North America. He enjoyed great conversations and spending time with his family and friends. William was a beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish William’s memory are his children, Nate (Wendy) Thomas; Jeanne (David) Baxter; grandsons, Reid Thomas; Carter Gordon; brother, James Thomas; longtime friend, Richard Morgan; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Alice Thomas; sister, Mary Kaye Spaulding.
