Plains girls impressive in win over Troy

For the Trotters it was a good win over a team they beat by 20 points in Plains last month.

For the Horsemen, it was a disappointing road loss to a team they beat earlier in the season in Plains.

The girls outscored Troy 12-8 in the first quarter, then cranked up their defense and held the cold-shooting Lady Trojans to one point as they rolled to a 24-9 halftime advantage in Troy Saturday evening.

Both teams traded baskets in the second half, with the Trotters outscoring Troy by one point in each of the final two quarters to secure a 47-30 Western 7B conference win. The victory upped the Trotters conference record to 2-5, and improved their overall record to 3-10.

Plains’ large first half lead held up the entire game during their win.

For the boys it was a different story, as they fell to Troy 60-47.

The Horsemen fell behind 14-8 after one quarter of play, then were out-pointed 18-6 in the second quarter as Troy built a 32-14 halftime lead.

The Horsemen got things going in the second half, trimming five points off the halftime deficit, but Troy mostly matched them basket for basket as they avenged an earlier loss to Plains on the Horsemen’s home court this past December.

The loss dropped Plains to 1-6 in 7B conference games and 3-10 on the year.

Both the Trotters and Horsemen have a pair of home games this week, beginning with a meeting tonight (Tuesday) with powerful Bigfork, whose boys and girls teams are both leading the 7B conference. They then entertain Eureka in another conference encounter Saturday evening, also in the Plains gym.
