Members of Plains VFW Post 3596 sponsored a St. Patrick’s Day gathering on Saturday with a free dinner and music.

A smorgasbord-style dinner was served, complete with meatballs, corn beef and green cookies at the VFW Post on West Lynch Street in Plains. The dinner was free for all, but donations were gladly accepted.

The feast was prepared by the Post’s Assistant Manager Shannon Crane. After cooking all day, she came to the celebration decked out in her St. Patrick’s Day, and very green outfit.

To top off the evening's festivities, singer and songwriter, David Allen Stone was on hand to entertain the crowd. Stone is also an 18-year veteran of the Army National Guard in Illinois. Entering his fifth year as a singer and songwriter, he is a finalist on the Country Western Channel’s program “The Next Big Twang.” His songs are on all the poplar music venues. Stone said he sings at VFW posts whenever possible. The VFW concert in Plains was his first trip to Montana.

The little concert goers, Forest Miliate and Baxton Traslavina, were given a guitar lesson between songs by Stone.
