Hunting harvest shows decline

General rifle season ended on Nov. 25 and a report for Region 2 during the third week of hunting by Fish, Wildlife & Parks showed a decline in the number of hunters and harvest. The total number of hunters in 2018 was 8,027, down from 9,317 for the same time period last year, with a total of 616 animals harvested compared to 818 in 2017.

Medication disposal bags hope to combat opioid crisis

State agencies are working alongside each other to provide at-home medication disposal bags. There will be 1,000 of them, called Deterra Medication Disposal Bags, available in Mineral County, according to Prevention Specialist Stephanie Quick at last week’s Healthy Communities Coalition. The bags will be distributed to the Mineral County Pharmacy, Partnership Health Center in Superior, law enforcement agencies, the county health department and school nurses.

Jean Isabelle Shaner, born April 27, 1927 at Cattaraugus, NY quietly passed away at the Missoula Community Medical Center on Monday, December 28, 2009 with her friend and partner of 48 years at her side. Over a period of 4 weeks she suffered through a series of increasingly more debilitating strokes. Although particially paralyzed, she was fully cognizant of her status and retained her composure, dignity and humor until the end of her life. An extraordinary person.
