Sanders County Visual Artists hold monthly meeting
On Saturday Feb. 18 the Sanders County Visual Artists held their monthly meeting to discuss the upcoming events, activities, and the renovation of the Paradise Center. In attendance at the meeting was President Karen Thorson, Public Affairs officer Joy Nelson, Rick Harter, Ilene Littlefield, and Shirley Proctor.

Veterans frustrated with Choices Program
The frustration in the room was palpable as Mineral County veterans expressed their concerns about the Veteran’s Choice Program, implemented in 2015. Representatives from Senator Jon Tester’s office were in Superior Friday to listen to what local vets had to say about the program. The vets, along with medical administrators, told stories of long wait times to get in contact with people to schedule appointments; their inability to get medical appointments scheduled and of bills not paid.
Great burn area off limits to snowmobiles
The Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forest still plans to close the Great Burn area to snowmobiling according to the most recent Draft Record of Decision for travel management. The latest decision was published on July 5, 2016 in the Lewiston Tribune.

Charity collects soda tabs
PLAINS - A competition between the different classes at the Plains School District began last week. Each class has been tasked with a mission to see how many can tabs they can collect by the last week of school before Winter Break. The class that collects the most tabs will be rewarded with a pizza party. The goal is to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House.

Wheeled Phoenix project helps veterans re-enter society in U.S.
The visions I’ve had of forgotten veterans have haunted me for years ... the Wheeled Phoenix project, the concept I’ve devised, will buy old cars and restore them as resto-mods. The cars will be raffled off by a nonprofit, Veteran Phoenix, LLLP, and the donations received from ticket sales will help homeless veterans re-enter society. Wheeled Phoenix’, Inc. will also produce two reality shows; one that will feature the car’s rebuild, and the other will feature the rebuilding of a soldier’s life.
Forest Service issues plan for Yellowstone Pipe project
The Forest Service has prepared a draft decision notice on the Yellowstone Pipe Out-of-Service Abandonment project, which is located on the Plains/Thompson Falls and Missoula Ranger Districts in Missoula and Sanders Counties.
Local students testify for bill
Three students from Superior testified before legislators on behalf of House Bill 20 back in January. Kalyn Plouffe, Savannah Moore and Sarah Wuebkes, along with other high schoolers from Montana, testified for the bill, currently in the senate, which would authorize county social host liability ordinances.
Avista invests $100,000 in Montana Community Foundation this month
SPOKANE, Wash. Oct. 23, 2009: Continuing a legacy of community partnership, Avista has announced a significant investment to benefit the communities of Montana. The $100,000 investment in the Montana Community Foundation will establish the Avista Fund, which will provide grants to non-profit organizations to support programs that strengthen communities and enhance the quality of life for the people of Montana, including Sanders County.

A U.S. Department of Justice grant will allow the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office to hire more officers.

Sinus infection turns life-threatening for Thompson Falls teen
He was flown to Logan Health Children’s hospital in Kalispell the next day for emergency surgery and then would need a second brain surgery that night. On Friday he was headed in for a third brain surgery.
