NOTICE OF SALE Department of Natural Resources & Conservation Timber Sale The 28 Mile Timber Sale is located within Section 36, T25N-R27W, on the State's Plains Unit. Approximately 20,795 tons, consisting of Douglas-fir sawlogs, are offered for sale. Sealed bids will be opened at the Department of Natural Resources & Conservation, 2705 Spurgin Road, Missoula, Montana on May 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Bids may be hand delivered or mailed and will be accepted any time prior to the bid opening. DNRC recommends that bidders contact the Trust Land Management Division (406-542-4300) prior to the bid opening to ensure that your bid has been received. Bids must be accompanied by a deposit of $30,766.00, representing 5% of the minimum bid value of the sale in cashier's check, certified check, bank money order or bank draft to be applied to the first sale invoice for the successful bidder. Bid bonds will be accepted and, for the successful bidder, will be closed upon execution of the Timber Sale Contract and Timber Sale Bond. The sale will be awarded to the highest responsible bidder. Award of the timber sale is conditional upon approval of the timber sale by the State Board of Land Commissioners at their April 16, 2018 meeting. Community Notes
There will be a forum for candidates running for the Mineral Community Hospital Board. Four current board members are up for re-election and all positions are contested. It will be held on Wednesday, April 18 in the multipurpose room at the Superior High School. The time has not been announced yet.

Community Notes
Annual community Easter Egg Hunts will be held on March 31 for youngsters. In St. Regis it will be held in the town park starting at exactly 11 a.m. The Alberton Ridge Runners Saddle Club will host the hunt in Alberton starting at noon sharp at the Alberton Community Center for walking toddlers to age 10 children. The Superior hunt will be at 1 p.m. sharp at the Eva Horning Park. Be on time; the eggs get snatched up fast!
Community Notes
The final community pot luck will be held in the 4-H Building at the Mineral County Fair Grounds starting at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 10. There will also be a speaker with a 25-30 minute program of interest. Coffee and lemonade will be provided along with the plates, napkins and utensils.

Two homes lost to fires in two months
Two house fires hit the west end of Mineral County within weeks of each other. Near Haugan, Ruschel Sage and Todd Oatman’s new home burned to the ground on Jan. 21. Nearly a month later, on Feb. 19, Shawn and Amy Cielke’s home also burned and was completely destroyed.
We should all be tested for HIV and Hep C
The Centers for Disease Control released a predictive study titled “County-level Vulnerability Assessment for Rapid Dissemination of HIV or HCV Infections among Persons who Inject Drugs” in summer 2016 that was intended to identify potential locations where an outbreak could occur. Mineral County ended up on this list based on the risk factors they looked at. Mineral County has risk just like any other county or tribal jurisdiction, but fortunately we have not experienced any increase in acute Hepatitis C or HIV infections.

Lenten lunches will begin Feb. 20 at the Senior Center in Superior. These are open to everyone and are free of charge. There will be a free-will basket at the check-in table. These donations will be distributed at the end of Lent to non-profit organizations such as We Care, Food Bank, Women in Timber or other recipients determined by the committee. One year we donated to the swimming pool.

The Feb. 10 Community Pot Luck will feature Josh Stroot of the Forest Service, who will speak about the local fires of last summer and precautions for the spring runoff. Dinners will be held at the 4-H Building at the Mineral County Fair Grounds at 6:00 pm. Coffee and lemonade will be provided along with the plates, napkins and utensils so we ask those who participate to bring an entrée, dessert or salad to share. For more information, call 822-3545. The workshop will cover a wide-range of topics including cottage food laws; food product development; business plan development; marketing food products and more.
