Loge optimistic for upcoming session
Denley Loge has worn many hats throughout his career, including 45 years working for the Montana Department of Transportation; he raises cattle; is the co-founder of the famed Missoula Maggots rugby club; plays trombone for the University of Montana Alumni Band; and served on several committees, including the Mineral County Conservation Board and Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 2 Citizens Advisory Committee.
Preparing our students for the future
The Montana Constitution, specifically Article X Section 8, gives ownership of the state’s publicly funded schools, with the support and engagement of school staff and the community, to each community through the supervision and control by its elected trustees. Section 1 of the same Article requires that the state’s education system to develop the full educational potential of each student a school serves.

Emergency services a challenge in Mineral County
Providing emergency services in small rural areas like Mineral County can be challenging due to the lack of volunteers and other resources needed. However, the Local Emergency Planning Committee, headed by George Gupton, and the LEPC Subcommittee on Communications is aiming to help overcome some of these challenges.
Keeping in Touch
Now that the General Election is over, it is time to begin preparing for the start of the 2011 Legislative Session which begins on January 3rd. On November 15th I am headed to Helena to begin that preparation. The following day I’ll be attending a Legislators’ forum, sponsored by the Montana Policy Institute, which will be covering property rights, fiscal responsibility in Montana and promoting free enterprise. On Wednesday, November 17th through the 19th, I will be attending the orientation and continued training sessions for new and returning legislators sponsored by the Legislative Services Division.

'Cardiac Ready Communities' hoping to take hold in Mineral County
The Local Emergency Planning Committee held their monthly meeting on Nov. 3 in Superior. During the meeting, Janet Trethewet gave a brief presentation on “Cardiac Ready Communities” initiative. The Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (MDPHHS) received a $3.2 million gift from the Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust last year. The funds have been used to implement this three-year initiative.

Study looks at black bear population in Region 2
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks researchers are launching a new multi-year study on black bears this month aimed at better understanding and estimating the population across the state. The first season of field research will focus on areas in west-central Montana, including the Blackfoot River watershed from Gold Creek through Ovando and Helmville.
