SANDERS COUNTY - Track and field teams from St. Regis and Superior competed last week at the Thompson Falls Invitational and the Seeley Invitational with some impressive results coming from the teams as they face the tail end of the season.

A letter printed in the Mineral Independent on Sept. 15 requested documentation from the specific wording of the 2005 Mineral County Airport ground lease contract which would support the county’s termination of the contract in July of 2008. It should be noted, in their subsequent comments, both here and online, that neither county attorney Shaun Donovan, nor commissioners Judy Stang, B.J. Mcomb or Clark Conrow were able to provide this documentation.

How the Sunrise Fire grew to over 6,400 acres

By Sunday morning, July 30 the Sunrise Fire had grown to 6,400 acres and was only 5 percent contained. As a result of continued hot, dry weather and westerly winds. Some 60 homes were threatened by the fire and residents were ordered to evacuate from the Sunrise and Quartz Flats areas with Verde Creek remaining at Stage 2 orders to be ready to evacuate. The area terrain is steep and hard to reach with hand crews in most areas.

Aeronautics board awards airport funds, including over $40,000 for Superior

HELENA — On January 19, the Montana Department of Transportation Aeronautics Division along with the Montana Aeronautics Board awarded a little over $600,000 in loans and grants to various Montana airports as part of its annual loan and grant program. Superior’s airport, which received $9,192 in grants funds and $30,998 in loans, was included.
