Computer crash delays 12-team Bob Kinney Classic in Superior

The annual Bob Kinney Classic wrestling tournament held in Superior came to an abrupt halt Saturday morning when the tournament program crashed. That left event representatives scrambling to get the teams back on the mats. The program, Trackwrestling, is used nationally and is an event management system for tournaments.

The website that houses the program crashed for about two hours nationwide, and so any one using the system was not allowed to access their tournament, said Superior Athletic Director Chris Clairmont. In the meantime, “old fashioned pen and paper” was used and things got back underway — thanks to the help of Stacy Ververis, Sydny Cataldo, Amanda Hanson and Alex Conrow.

“They were amazing and helped save the tournament,” Clairmont said.

Only a few matches were finished when the system went down, causing the tournament to run until 4 p.m. Saturday. The cause of the malfunction has yet to be determined.

Twelve western Montana teams showed up for the long-running event with Cut Bank placing first with 132 points. The Superior/Alberton co-op, the Clark Fork Mountain Cats, placed 11th with 52 points. Mountain Cat Trey Green placed third in the 182-pound class; Isaiah Kovalsky was fourth in 145; and Wesley Buchannen also placed fourth at 132 pounds.

On the Mountain Cats wrestling schedule is a quad meet at Arlee this Thursday, Dec. 13, starting at 6 p.m. Clark Fork competes in the Corvallis Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 8, then goes to the Florence quad next Tuesday, Dec. 18.
