Dec. 5, 1957: Santa to Make Deliveries—A horse-drawn sleigh will be used by Gambles Store in Superior to deliver purchases before Christmas, according to Ed Freer, store owner. Freer has the bright red conveyance on display in his store window. Check with him for more details.

Chamber Will Hear About Forest Rec—Frank Blackmer of the Lolo National Forest office in Missoula will be the principal speaker at the regular Mineral County Chamber of Commerce meeting on Wednesday, Dec. 11. The chamber will meet in the Legion Cafe in Superior where Blackmer will explain the effect on Mineral County of the forest service land recreation program.

Forest Receipts Earn Half A Million—Funds from the sale of national forest timber were apportioned to the various counties recently. Mineral County will receive nearly $60,000 this year. The payment is based on the proportion of forest land in each county and is paid in lieu of taxes.

This income, added to the anticipated total tax receipts from other sources, will exceed half million dollars. The county treasurer shows $467,237 on the tax books to be collected for the state of Montana, the towns of Alberton and Superior, the various school districts and the county operation. Mineral's share of the forest timber receipts is $59,895, which added to the tax receipts, will total more than $527,000.

Berd Pelarske of St. Regis Passes—Funeral services were conducted from the Masonic Temple in Superior Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Berd Pelarske of St. Regis. Members of the Mary Baldwin Chapter No. 87, O.E.S., conducted the lodge funeral rites.

Berd Holland was born in Galena, Illinois on May 30, 1877. She married Michael W. Pelarske in Chicago in 1905. Mike was construction foreman for the Milwaukee road telegraph line and followed the track west in 1909, passing through what would become Mineral County. Land was acquired at St. Regis and after pushing west to Washington state, he returned there to make his family home where the couple lived for the past 48 years. Berd's husband preceded her on death April 8, 1951. She is survived by son, Dee, of Kellogg and St. Regis.

Cracks Collarbone—Young Ronald Kay took a tumble while playing near his home in west Superior Saturday and endured a broken collar bone. He is now a patient at the Mineral hospital.

New Home—Mrs. Dorothy Gates and daughter Carole moved into their new home on Third Avenue in Superior over the Thanksgiving holiday. The two-bedroom house was built this fall by local contractors.

Baby Boomers: Mr. and Mrs. Wayne McClellan of Superior are the parents of eight-pound, 12-ounce William Homer born on Tuesday, December 3 at Mineral hospital.

In the Military: Seaman Apprentice Dixie Ann Gee is spending her leave with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Rayment of Superior. She enlisted in the WAVES in August and received her recruit training at Bainbridge, Maryland. She will report to Bainbridge on completion of her leave and will be taking on the job training as a machine accountant.

Gunners Mate Sandy Guttu left Sunday for Philadelphia where his ship, the USS Taberer, is based. His bride, the former Maryann Miles of Superior, expects to join him there after the first of the year.

Thanksgiving Visitors—Mr. and Mrs. Bud Beaman (she is Bob Dunn's sister) of Corona del Mar, California stayed with the Dunns for the turkey holiday. The Wes Castles family of Helena came to see his mother, Catherine Castles of Superior. Mrs. Hazel McGuin of Taft came to Superior to see her son, Ron McGuin. Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Petersen spent the day with their son Frank and family in Alberton. Buddy Campbell, now a teacher in Willow Creek, came home to see his parents. Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Brennan spent Thanksgiving in Spokane with their daughters and families. And Mr. and Mrs. Clyde C. Field and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Drenth and Sharlene were Thanksgiving dinner guests at the Clyde Field, Jr. home.
