Hawks fall to Troy, rebound with big victory over Eureka

The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks bounced back from a season-opening loss to Troy with a decisive home victory over Eureka Friday.

Thompson Falls took on Troy Thursday in the first regular game of the season, falling to the Lady Trojans 64-60, despite racking up 18 points from beyond the arch. Though Troy attempted just one more two-pointer than Thompson Falls, the Lady Trojans nailed 22 of 46 two-point buckets and the Hawks could connect on only 12 shots. Troy grabbed 30 defensive rebounds to 19 for the Hawks, but Thompson Falls doubled the Lady Trojans' offensive rebound total with 18.

Junior guard Rheanna Padden delivered a standout offensive performance for the Lady Hawks, tallying 22 points and connecting on four of 10 three-point baskets.

Also in double digits for Thompson Falls were Katelyn Jedlicka, a junior guard who posted 14 points for the Hawks, and Karli Cavill, who nailed a three-point basket and four free throws on her way to 11 points. Jedlicka also hustled for eight rebounds.

Senior Katie Petteys chalked up seven points, including five free throws, and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Hawks. She also contributed a blocked shot and a steal for Thompson Falls.

The Hawks fared better versus Eureka Friday, surging to a 43-34 win over the Lady Lions.

Jedlicka connected on three baskets from beyond the arch and led the Hawk offensive charge with 13 points. Jedlicka, showcasing her all-purpose game, added three assists, a steal and five defensive rebounds to her point total.

Petteys and Padden each contributed nine points for the Hawks. Petteys was four for 11 from inside, adding seven rebounds and a pair of blocked shots. Padden also tallied four assists, four steals and eight rebounds.

Sophomore guard Kyla Molzhon rounded out the top Hawk performers, connecting on three two-point buckets and a free-throw for seven points.

The Lady Hawks are slated to play Noxon at home Dec. 21, followed by an away match-up with Florence next Saturday.
