Melvin E. Wengerd
Heron resident Melvin E. Wengerd, age 80, formerly of Millersburg, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord, April 11, 2008, following an extended illness. He was born Oct. 9, 1927, in Holmes County, Ohio, and was the son of Emanuel and Mary Swartzentruber Wengerd. He was a meat cutter for 29 years, then a farmer until he retired in 1993. He was a good husband and father, and family man. In 1999, he moved to Heron, Mont. Melvin was a member of Church of Heron.
He leaves behind a loving family that includes his wife, Elizabeth Miller Wengerd, whom he married Dec. 20, 1951, and four children, Mervin (Freida) Wengerd of Columbus, N.C., Myron (Joyce) Wengerd of Heron, Mont., James (Carol) Wengerd of Noxon, Mont., Christina (Brian) Austin of Brinkhaven, Ohio, 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren. Sisters Edna (Ervin) Schlabach of Guthrie, Ky., Clara (Davis) Weaver of Fredericksburg, Ohio, Elizabeth Weaver and Nettie (Andy) Beachy both of Sugarcreek, Ohio, Ada and Verna Wengerd of Bradenton, Fla., sister-in-law, Clara Hostetler of Sugarcreek, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Henry, a great grandson and a brother-in-law.
A viewing was held Monday evening at Trout Creek Truss on Highway 200. Services were held Tuesday, April 15, at the Heron Community Center. The family suggests that Memorial Contributions be made to Hospice of Sanders County. Sunset Hills Funeral Homes in Thompson Falls are entrusted with the arrangements.
