Tanner Colombo led the Plains Horsemen with 11 points for a 45-41 victory over the Lions at Eureka Jan. 5. Teammate Paul Green chalked up 10 points, with Trent Thompson on his heels with nine and Ian Stokes with seven in their win over the Lions, which put the Horsemen at a 7-1 record.

Plains drew first blood but Lions finished the first quarter with an 11-6 lead over the Horsemen. That didn't last long, said John Revier, head coach for the Plains boys. The Horsemen inched their way past the Lions to take a two-point lead at halftime. "We took the lead in the second quarter and we never gave it back," said Revier.

Revier said that it wasn't long into the third that the Horsemen had an eight-point lead, which they kept for most of the game. By the end of the third, the Plains boys were ahead 31-23. The Lions managed to get within five points for a short time in the fourth quarter, but with about three minutes left in the game, sophomore Brian Green sank a three-pointer for the Horsemen. "That was crucial," said Revier, who said it gave them a little more breathing room. Eureka scored in the final minute, but the Horsemen took possession and held onto the ball until the clock ran out.

Of the 36 rebounds against the Lions, Mitch Thompson and Paul Green had nine apiece. Brian Green led the Horsemen with six of 10 team steals. Paul Green led with two assists.
