Plains Piranhas snap 10th at swim meet

The Plains Piranhas competed at a meet in Columbia Falls this past weekend, and while they didn’t have as many swimmers go to it as have gone to meets the past two weeks, Coach Derek Danhof felt that they performed pretty well.
“Even though we had a smaller number go to this meet we still had some swimmers that did really good,” he said.
Laurel Danhof, Kelli Nance, Josh Connolly and Grace Alexander all made it to the finals on Saturday in all three of their individual events.
“Those guys did great and got the opportunity to swim in all of their events in the finals,” Danhof said. “However, the others did really well too.”
There were 309 swimmers who competed in the Columbia Falls Invitational. Plains came in 10th overall with 115 points out of the 13 teams who competed. The Plains’ girls team came in eighth place with 66 points and the Plains boys team came in 12th place with 49 points.
“We didn’t quite do as well as we have been because we didn’t have as many people there,” Danhof said.
Alexander swam the 25-meter freestyle in a time of 25.81 and the 50-meter backstroke in a time of 1:15.83. Connolly swam the 25-meter freestyle in a time of 25.52 and the 25-meter backstroke in a time of 31.10. Nance swam the 100-meter backstroke in a time of 1:38.20 and swam the 50-meter butterfly in a time of 47.90.
There is a meet planned for this weekend, but Danhof wasn’t sure how many if any swimmers would be able to make it because of the price of gas and the distance they’d have to travel to get to the tournament.
“It is about a couple of hours away, so we’re really not sure yet if anybody is going to be able to come out and swim,” he said.
