It was a beautiful, if a little windy, day for softball last Thursday as Sparky’s Gutter Time from Thompson Falls defeated the team of McGowan’s Printery from Plains.

Sparky’s Gutter Time defeated McGowan’s Printery 19-15, in an exciting game. It was a close contest with Sparky’s Gutter Time just slipping past McGowan’s Printery.

Both teams are made up of women from their respective towns and the surrounding areas, and while scores are kept and the game taken seriously, both teams have a lot of fun too.

“The whole point of the summer league is to have a good time with friends, while getting to play a really awesome sport in the process,” Sparky’s Gutter Time member Chris Sparks said.

The team out of Thompson Falls had a really strong second inning with seven runs. Lisa Buchanan, Angie Gaston, Stacy Milner, Devina Smith, Kim Sparks, Chris Sparks, and Teresa Nelson all scored.

From there it was back and forth a bit with both teams trading runs with each other, or trading innings with no scores with each other.

“We really played well,” Sparks said. “I feel like the team as a whole did a really good job.”

Sparks said that there really wasn’t anyone who stood out and shined above the rest of the team, but did say that everyone played well and played their part in the way they needed to.

Teams are formed based on the town you are in for the most part, according to Sparks. She also said that the summer woman’s softball league in Sanders County has been going on for as long as she can remember, and likely for over 20 years.

Sparky’s Gutter Time will play this Thursday at 7 p.m. in Thompson Falls and McGowan’s Printery will play at 7 p.m. in Plains. There will also be a tournament a week from Saturday with all of the woman’s summer league softball teams playing for the championship.

“The tournament on Saturday should be a lot of fun,” Sparks said. “We’re really looking forward to it.”
