Benjamin Gus Myrstol

Benjamin Gus Myrstol died Wednesday, July 23rd at his home in Plains, Montana. He was 78 years old. Born in Big Timber, MT, he moved to Plains at the age of 5.

He served in the US Army from 1948 to 1953. He was stationed in Japan where he met Yoko and married her on Friday the 13th, July 1951. After his discharge from the military, the couple returned to Plains and shared 57 years of marriage. He spent his working years as a sawyer and in logging and retired from the Forest Service.

He loved the outdoors, hunting, cutting wood and his many pets. He cherished time visiting his loving family and his many friends. He was a talented musician and entertainer. Jam sessions were enjoyed by everyone within earshot.

Ben is survived by his precious wife Yoko who remains at their home in Plains. He also leaves behind his sisters, Ellen and Delmer Isakson of Port Orchard, Ore, Donna and Tom McCrea of Plains, Marie Barber and husband Bert Loftus, also of Plains, Nancy and Gary James, Milton Freewater Oregon, and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.

He is preceded in death by his parents, father Gustav Myrstol, and mother Elma Gonkey Mydland and stepfather Ludvig K Mydland. His brother Doug Smith and sister Sharon Mydland Neukirch have been called home before him as well as a niece, Connie McCrea Austin.

The family plans a Graveside Service that will be held at a later time.
