Two Superior High School students represented their school and had a blast last week at the all-state football game at Montana Technical University in Butte.

“It was the funnest week of my life,” Weston Super said.

Super and David Repke, both graduating seniors, went to Butte last Monday to begin practice for the all-state game Saturday.

The students had two practices a day, one at 9 a.m. and another at 2 p.m. Super said he thought the practices were some of the hardest he has ever been through.

“It was some of the hardest, funnest football I’ve ever played,” Super said.

Repke was battling a hamstring pull from track season and said he was doing his best to take it easy during the practices. Unfortunately, he hurt his leg again during practice on Friday and was unable to play in the all-state Game Saturday.

Both Repke and Super agreed however that one of the best parts of the experience was getting to know some of the other football players from the state.

“You got to know some people who you thought weren’t as good as they really were,” Repke said.

The players were divided up into the Red Team, which included players from the Eastern Conference, and the Blue Team, which included players from all the other conferences.

The Blue Team won and Super said it was because they worked well together as a team.

“I think the reason we won was that everyone on the Blue Team was so close. The other team didn’t even know each other’s names,” Super said.

Students from Superior High School loaded onto a bus Saturday afternoon and headed to Butte to join the throngs of fans packing the stadium to watch the all-state game.

“I thought I did really well, I kind of surprised myself,” Super said.

Throughout the week there were lots of activities for the athletes to do. They had barbecues, went to movies and watched the game video from last year’s all-state game.

“They had a lot of stuff for us to do and they kept us busy,” Repke said.

During the activities, Super said he got to know some of his competition from the past seasons.

“Most of them were my rivals from other teams, but they all ended up being really cool and I made a lot of new friends,” Super said.

Next year Repke will be going to college at Calvary Chapel, south of Los Angeles. He said he does not plan to play any college level sports.

Super will be playing football at Montana Technical University next year. He said he will be a red-shirt defensive or offensive tackle and he will be attending the university on scholarship.

Super said he has played football at the stadium in Butte before and that playing the all-state game in the same stadium he would be playing college football in did not faze him.

“It didn’t really make a difference at all, I just played some football. I didn’t really think about the future I just thought about what was going on right there around me,” Super said.
