A motion signed by Judge Deborah Kim Christopher on Oct. 27 granting leave to charge 17-year-old Shawn Malatare as an adult stemming from two alleged car jackings near Hot Springs.

Malatare appeared Oct. 28 before Judge C.B. McNeil, since it was Christopher’s off-week. The hearing was held to determine whether or not he would be transferred to a juvenile detention center or keep him in jail.

Malatare has been charged with two felony counts of robbery, two felony accounts of assault with a weapon and one misdemeanor count of unlawful attempt to purchase or possession of an intoxicating substance.

Malatare has been accused of pulling a gun on two women after they stopped to help him on Highway 200. Malatare and another man were intoxicated and had their car pulled off the side of the road. Malatare stood in the middle of the road flagging down cars when the women stopped to help. Once they stopped Malatare pulled a gun on them and the women sped off.

McNeil granted a motion to allow Malatare to continue to be held until he could post bail. He was being held on $50,000 bail.

Malatare’s next court appearance is Nov. 18 in front of Christopher.
