Superior High School wrapped up their homecoming week with a grand parade and a pep rally to cheer their football team on to victory Friday afternoon.

The festivities started with a barbeque for the students Friday afternoon while they finished up working on their floats.

Afterwards they all gathered in the Superior gym for a pep rally.

The rally started off with a video entitled Rock the Place, produced by Superior student Jessica Yarnall. Yarnall's video was followed by another video produced by Brian Labbe and Roman Zylaway.

After the two videos, principal Alan Labbe announced the winners for the week's costume contest.

Kelsey Stenberg and Bobby Bailey won best costume for Hippy Day, Sami Woodard and Alex Conrow won best costume for Rock Star Day, Bajin Smith and Travis Smith won best costume on Duo Day for their Starsky and Hutch costume, and Kaitlin Koke and Milinda Steinbach won best costume for Spirit Day.

After the announcements, the students took over the pep rally and competed in a series of games to compete for the coveted spirit stick.

The first game was a four-part obstacle course that consisted of balancing a golf ball on a spoon, making a basketball shot, kicking a soccer ball into a goal and making a quick half-lap around the gym.

Students from each class also took gulps of ginger ale along with an Alka-Seltzer tablet under their tongue to see who could go the longest without spewing ginger ale, had a dizzy hockey stick race, and a tug-of-war match between the classes.

At the end of the pep rally, there was a tie between the senior and junior class and Alan Labbe decided that there would be a sing-off at a future pep rally to decide who would receive the coveted spirit stick.

The coaches of the Superior Bobcats' football and volleyball teams each took a turn talking with the students about all their teams have accomplished so far this season.

“This is arguably one of the best spirit groups we've ever had,” said head football coach Dan Lucier.

The students then took to the streets for a parade through Superior and back to the high school.

Students decorated their floats with anti-pirate decorations in preparation for the football teams' game against the Victor Pirates that evening.

The homecoming court, consisting of seniors Tyler Stenberg and Alex Conrow, juniors Cody Vulles and Sealey Ray, sophomores Christopher Eriksson and Dakota Hayes and freshmen Kevin Ryan and Ashley Blaylock, rode on separate cars and waved to the crowds.

At the homecoming game that night Stenberg and Ray were named the homecoming king and queen. The freshman were also given the award for best float in the homecoming parade.

“They can't drive but boy can they float,” said announcer and elementary school principal Scot Kinney.
