Last week was homecoming week for the St. Regis Tigers, and their cheering and team spirit helped to fire the Lady Tigers Varsity Volleyball team up enough for a tough win against the Superior Bobcats Thursday night.

St. Regis's homecoming celebrations took place on Wednesday. Students took most of the day to build floats cheering their team on to victory for an afternoon parade.

The parade took off at 2 p.m. and made a loop from the school to Highway 135 and back. It included floats designed by the freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors of St. Regis High School and the other students lined the streets to catch candy and cheer on their fellow students.

The homecoming court, consisting of seniors Cody Roper and Jasmine Jones, juniors Heather Pruitt and Chad Hotchkiss, sophomores Dusty Reiche and Nikki Rich and freshman Jordan Baldwin and Sierra Slavin, each rode in a car and greeted the crowds during the parade.

After the parade, St. Regis students gathered in the gymnasium for a pep rally to celebrate their homecoming.

After a few cheers from the St. Regis cheerleading squad, the students embarked on a series of wacky games to decide which class had the most school spirit.

The events started off with an ice cream eating contest where teams of two from the freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors attempted to see who could eat the most ice cream in the shortest amount of time. Juniors James Jennings and Heather Pruitt won the game, gobbling down as much ice cream as they could with their bare hands.

Then two students were selected from each class for a relay in which one competitor put on an article of clothing, ran across the gym, took off the article of clothing and gave it to their partner. Their partner then put on the article of clothing while the other competitor ran back down the gym to get another piece of clothing.

Seniors Pat Quinlivan and Jasmine Jones won the clothing competition.

Two students were then chosen for a competition in which a competitor in a chair dangled a chocolate-dipped doughnut from a string with their teeth above their partner to feed it to them. Sophomores Leeandra Baldwin and Raydan Williamson won the competition.

The final competition was an apple bobbing showdown, which was overwhelmingly won by senior Willy Roper.

The freshman class was announced as the winning float for the parade. However, the senior class won more events than any other and won the pep rally.

The coaches of the Tigers' football and volleyball teams each took some time to talk with the students.

Assistant coach Jim Martin encouraged all of the students to show up for the school's homecoming football game Wednesday evening.

Head volleyball coach Cindy Feasel also encouraged those that could to come out the Lady Tigers' game against the Superior Lady Bobcats Thursday evening. The Tigers pulled out an impressive win, despite losing the first two games in the match.

“When we're up in our game we're unbeatable,” Feasel said at the rally Wednesday.

The Tigers' football team ran into a streak of tough luck during their face off against the Alberton Panthers Wednesday night, but the stands were packed with cheering students.

During halftime, Roper and Jones were announced king and queen of the Tigers' homecoming court.
