Letter shows misconceptions

| October 15, 2008 12:00 AM

Editor,

Shirley Bakke’s letter of Oct. 8 has prompted me to write and correct a few of her many misconceptions. Not only has the, in her words, “esteemed lawyer” Fred Kelly Grant heard of our county, he has been here in a public meeting which included our commissioners and commissioners from other Montana counties as well.

I can further state Mr. Grant did not write this plan, although he did give his very valuable legal advice. By the way Shirley, there is a huge difference between a plan that would affect your private property rights, a.k.a zoning, which would tell you how to live and was voted down by the majority of citizens in the county, and a coordination plan that would give you access to our public lands and resources. And one last correction: This Sanders Natural Resource Plan was written by a 12-member council, chaired by my husband, Ron Olfert, and was the result of thousands of hours of effort by them and other like minded citizens in this county who want to protect YOUR right to the available resources here in Sanders County.
