Not our campaign calls

| October 15, 2008 12:00 AM

Dear editor,

I have received a few messages from friends asking me to stop making incessant campaign phone calls. My campaign, by the way, consists of myself and a few local loyal and hardworking supporters. We haven’t had the time to be on the phone all the time and these people calling are not from my campaign. So who are they?

As I researched this annoyance to try to put an end to it, I was told that candidates have no control over third party, independent expenditures. These groups say what they want, call when they want and just don’t get it that many local candidates don’t need or want their help. We take pride in hand shakes and door-to-door contact with voters.

I’m as frustrated as my friends with phone calls that are not part of my campaign, saying that they represent me. They may mean well, but so does a puppy that jumps up on your Sunday suit with muddy paws. I’ll continue to do whatever I can to put an end to these calls and hope, in the meantime, that voters will forgive the intrusion.

Sincerely, Paul Clark

Candidate, SD7
