The Superior Bobcats junior varsity football team came out on top in a home-town face-off against the St. Regis Tigers with fans of both teams cheering them Saturday afternoon.

The Bobcats scored the first touchdown of the game when sophomore R.J. Frederick snagged a Tiger pass and ran it in for a touchdown with less than seven minutes left in the first quarter. The Bobcats failed in their attempt at a two-point conversion.

Tiger Willy Roper stepped up and answered the Bobcats touchdown with a 50-yard run down field for a touchdown. The Tigers pushed through for their two-point conversion and with more than six minutes in the first quarter the Tigers were ahead 8 – 6.

After the Bobcats recovered a fumbled snap to Tiger quarterback Pat Quinlivan 17 yards away from the end zone, freshman Jake Bauer caught a touchdown pass and the Bobcats completed a two-point conversion to finish off the first quarter in the lead 14 – 8.

With more than six minutes to go in the second quarter, Bobcat Kevin Ryan picked up a second Tigers fumbled snap and ran it in for another touchdown. The Bobcats completed their two-point conversion attempt for a 22 – 8 lead over the Tigers.

With two minutes left in the second quarter, the Quinlivan ran in another touchdown for the Tigers. The Bobcats blocked the Tigers attempt for a two-point conversion and at the end of the first half the Bobcats were in the lead 22 – 14.

In the third quarter the Bobcats scored the first touchdown with Mason Chatterley catching a touchdown pass. The Bobcats fumbled on their attempt for a two-point conversion and with five minutes to go in the quarter the Bobcats were ahead 28 – 14.

With only 12 seconds left in the third quarter, Chatterley came through for another touchdown after catching a 30-yard pass and running another 20 yards for the touchdown. The Tigers blocked the Bobcats two-point conversion attempt and at the end of the fourth quarter the Bobcats had a 34 – 14 lead.

The Bobcats started out the fourth quarter playing tough again when Chatterley ran in another touchdown with more than seven minutes to go in the quarter. The Tigers blocked their attempt at a two-point conversion and the Bobcats had a 40 – 14 lead over the Tigers.

The Tigers made a tough effort at the end of the game to regain their footing. With seven minutes to go Roper ducked through the Bobcats defense and ran in a more than 70-yard touchdown. The Tigers then completed their attempt at a two-point conversion.

Not finished yet, Roper caught a 30-yard pass within two yards of the end zone and ran it in for a touchdown on the next play. The Tigers then completed a two point conversion and closed the gap in the scores to 40 – 30 with more than three minutes left to go in the fourth quarter.

Despite their strong push to win the game, the Tigers could not overcome the Bobcats defense in the final minutes and the Bobcats won the game 40 – 30.

“It was an ugly win, but we won,” said Bobcats coach Charlie Krabb.

The Bobcats JV team has only lost two games this season and Krabb said that he has been pretty impressed with their performance.

Tigers Head Coach Dan Noonan said that the Tigers have had a 4 – 4 record this season and while it is not perfect, the team has learned a lot and improved over the season.

“We’re way more of a football team this year than we have been in the past,” Noonan said.
