A high-speed crash in Noxon early Sunday morning left one man dead and another injured. The accident occurred in the westbound lane on Broadway Street at 2:20 a.m. Sunday morning.

According to Montana High Patrol Dispatch, the driver, a 30-year-old male from Pocatello, Idaho, died onscene. His 22-year-old passenger was injured and taken to Clark Fork Valley Hospital.

Both alcohol and speed were factors in the crash. The passenger told police that the driver reached speeds in excess of 100 mph when he rounded a curve and lost control of the vehicle. While the passenger was wearing his seatbelt, the driver wasn’t. When the silver 2004 GMC Sierra flipped off the road and hit a tree, the driver was ejected.

This marked the 194th fatality in Montana this year. As of press time, neither of the two men’s names had been released.
