While it wasn’t quite the season the Savage Horsemen had envisioned, they were able to end it on a high note, defeating the Mission Bulldogs during their final game, which also just so happened to be Homecoming.

The game started out a little rough with Reiley Winebrenner’s pass attempt intercepted with 11:21 left to go in the first quarter at the Mission 35-yard line.

However Plains-Hot Springs was able to get the ball back at the 8:50 mark with Mission turned it over on fourth down and Plains was able to take over on their own 37-yard line.

After a couple of penalties the Savage Horsemen were able to score with 3:03 remaining in the first quarter. Mitch Thompson had a 2-yard one, which was capped off by a Carson Lilja extra point attempt that went right down the middle of the uprights, bringing Plains-Hot Springs to 7-0.

The second and third quarters where much of a back and forth game, with neither team ever getting close enough to get another touchdown. That is until there were 38 seconds left in the third quarter and Dillon Fryxell completed a 1-yard run to give the Savage Horsemen six points. Lilja’s kick was right down the middle again, and Plains-Hot Springs pulled ahead to 14-0.

The Mission Bulldogs started to get frantic in the fourth quarter, turning it over on downs twice, not being able to get passed the Savage Horsemen defensive line.

Thompson rushed 15 times for 112 total yards, including his touchdown run. Fryxell added 54 of his own yards and a touchdown. He also had 75 yards on punt returns. On the defensive end Isiah Joner had 14 tackles for the Savage Horsemen and Chris Stobie had 12.

The Plains-Hot Springs Savage Horsemen moved to 1-3 in conference play and 3-7 overall for the year with the win.
