Patchwork parade showcases fashion

The 4-H Pavilion was alive with brightly colored dresses, rugs, quilts and pillows Saturday evening as 4-H members participated in the “Patchwork Parade.”
The Patchwork Parade is a way for 4-H members to show of their various handmade crafts that they have worked on over the past year and entered in to be judged.
There were sun dresses, period dresses, running shorts, quilts, pillowcases, and wall hangings that were displayed during the parade.
It was obvious that the girls involved took a lot of time and put a lot of work into their various sewing crafts.
Many of the girls participated in several different sewing projects.
Maria Naegli, made running shorts, a running tank top, a pullover, as well as a John Deere quilt, which took her eight months to make.
Amanda Woods made pajama pants with pigs all over them and used a pattern. However, she altered the pattern a little bit to include an elastic waistband to help make the pajama pants fit better and be more comfortable. She spent three hours completing her pajama pants.
Nicole Ribeiro said that she absolutely loves to sew and that doing her different projects was a lot of fun. She made pajama pants, a pillow which took her three weeks to make, and a table runner with took her a month to make.
The girls were able to use their discretion in what they wanted to make and what fabric they wanted to use.
Emily and Amanda Snell both made old period dresses, as if they were young women of the 1700s.
The girls said that the dresses took a while to make but they had a lot of fun doing it, especially with adding all of the finishing touches to the dresses.
The girls’ creations had already been judged earlier in the week but this was a fun way for them to model their achievements in front of friends and family.
“I really had a lot of fun making all of these things,” Abigail Croft said. “It was nice to be able to show them off too.”
Croft made gaucho pants, several wall hangings for her mother, a quilt which took her two months to make, a table runner, which took nine hours to make and a purse, which took three hours to make.
