A wild dream

| September 10, 2008 12:00 AM

One County Commissioner candidate has a plan to bring many tourist dollars to Sanders County. She also has contacted at least one other person in the county as the cost of the plan. Or is it a wild dream?

Her plan, recently repeated at the County Fair where she was campaigning, is to build a tram to the top of Scotchman Peak.¬Ý

Let us overlook the fact that such a tram would cost in the tens of millions of dollars. Let’Äôs overlook the fact that Sanders County likely would not have sufficient residents or tourists to pay for it my lifetime, your lifetime, or that of your children. Let’Äôs overlook that it would have to be built by a private company since the county government can’Äôt get funding for such ideas. Let’Äôs overlook the fact that the configuration of Sanders County will not draw sufficient tourists driving east and west to make a side trip to Scotchmans for a quick ride on the tram. Let’Äôs overlook the fact that the most feasible tram would be based in Idaho- one in Montana would cost tens of million dollars more.

But let’Äôs not overlook the simple, honest fact that Scotchman Peak and Scotchman Peak No. 2 are both located in Idaho.

If this is the type plan we can expect from this person as a County Commissioner, we are in deep trouble.
