Diabetes awareness fun run to be held in Plains

| April 29, 2009 12:00 AM

On Saturday, May 9 there will be an event at the Sanders County Fairgrounds to raise awareness for diabetes and ways to prevent Type 2 diabetes.

Events will start at 9 a.m. and wrap up around noon. The running/walking portion will start at 10 a.m. and finish at 11 a.m.

This is not a fundraiser.

It is a “fun” raiser. Back Country Horsemen, TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly), youth baseball and swimming and other organizations will have booths to promote interesting activities for all age groups.

Sign up sheets for starting your own summer walking or running group will be available.

Learn more about diabetes from diabetes educators and a dietician who will be on hand from St. Patrick Hospital to talk about prevention and the maintenance of diabetes.

Free testing will also be provided by staff from the Clark Fork Valley Hospital.

McGowan’s Grocery representatives will offer help in finding affordable and healthy foods at their store.
