Plains shooters score big

The Plains Trap Shooting Club was in action last weekend, and a couple of Plains shooters saw themselves shooting their way through the competition in several of the categories.
On Saturday Jackie Garrigus of Plains scored a high score of 96 on the 1st handicap from the 21 yard line. It seems that competition is in her blood as her husband Tom won a silver medal in the 1968 Olympics and her step son Robert is currently competing on the PGA tour.
“I felt good. I concentrated. I followed through,” says Garrigus. “I kicked ‘evil Jackie’ away.” Garrigus refers to the tough mental game that surrounds trap shooting as evil Jackie. “You start thinking wrong you start missing targets,” says Garrigus.
When she is shooting good she says her secret is to “see it, break it and smile.”
As for the home club advantage Plains shooters said that sometimes it is a disadvantage as they usually have to help organize the event and can lose focus. However, this proved not to be true for the Plains shooters as five shooters out of the top seven overrall scores were from Plains.
Don Kunzer won the singles class C with 96. Dave Paske won the doubles class B with 94. Mike smith scored a 95 in the mid-yardage handicap. Overall Mark Hanson of Frenchtown hit 564 out of 600. Barry Gilpin hit 559, Jackie Garrigus hit 558, Mike Smith hit 555, Greg Finch hit 552 and Dave Paske hit 550.
