The Thompson Falls wrestling team finished their last weekend meet in December where they started the month, wrestling well and placing high as a team. The Bluehawks took third place in a highly competitive meet in Corvallis over the weekend finishing behind only the host Corvallis and fellow Class A squad Hamilton.

“We had nine total placers, which is the most we’ve had in quite awhile,” says Head Wrestling Coach Colby Cline. “We’re pretty happy with that result.”

The Bluehawks also had a chance to flex their muscles against division foes Florence and Darby. They were actually down a half point before Robbi White started the last match for the team.

After pinning his opponent White’s match was enough to put Thompson Falls over the hump and 1/2 point on top of Florence. White finished third place in heavyweight.

Senior Richard Lyons came home with the largest piece of hardware for the Bluehawks as he placed first in 152.

“Richard looked really tough. He looked dominant,” says Cline. Another good performance came from Austin Kinzer who placed second in 125. It was a good turnaround for Kinzer as he started off the season with a slow start and Coach Cline thinks his performance will go a long ways towards improving his confidence.

Other placers include Dalton Nelson with a fourth place finish in 105, Tanner Gascon with a third place finish in 135, Zach Lyons with a fourth place finish in 152, Sawn Sachi with a second place finish in 160, Levi Dowell finishing second in 171, Eric Hilety finishing second in 184.

Coach Cline is looking forward to the break where he can jam in five practices for his overall young team.

“We’ve got a few kids that are learning and we get five days to practice and improve on things. We got a really young team wrestling wise,” says Cline.
