Patriotism is no longer in our schools

| December 24, 2009 12:00 AM

Goodbye America, home of the free; land of the brave.

At least as we knew it when growing up. No longer is patriotism taught (or exampled) in our schools. What is taught is unearned self esteem and a right to all the finer things in life without having to earn anything. Thanks, NEA.

Gone is the work ethic that made our country great. In its place are more social safety nets than anyone can imagine (or pay for). Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

What happened to you is not of your doing, right? You deserve that big screen TV, fancy car or truck, a cell phone with more computing power than mission control had when we put the first man on the moon, cheap booze, cigarettes, and a congressional delegation that is intent on feathering only their nests. But you’ll continue to vote Congress back in as long as they promise you more gravy that you don’t have to pay for. That will change as everything is going to cost more with “free healthcare” and “cap and trade” legislation. Remember, “NO free lunch?”

The freeloaders are now in the majority. More than half of the voters opted for the socialist in the last election. Why? A recent news report stated that 58% of Americans get federal checks/subsidies of one sort or another. Why work when you can simply hold out your hand (palm side up) and get welfare and soon healthcare. Why think when the media will take you by the hand and help you vote, right? Will it be long before your choices in the voting booth are limited to one per office? Better quit reading this now, it is causing you to think - something a lot of you didn’t learn how to do in school.
