The Thompson Falls Lady Hawks opened up conference play this past weekend splitting their games by winning against Troy and losing to Eureka.

Against Troy the Lady Hawks jumped out to an early lead holding the Lady Trojans to only eight points in the first quarter with strong full court pressure in rout to a 52-17.

“We limited them to outside shots, which is our goal,” says Coach Jason Reimer.

On offense Karli Cavill and Kyla Molzhon dominated the paint with their excellent slashing ability. Molzhon led the team with 20 points, while Cavill had 14 points and 11 rebounds for a double double. Makayla Becker finished with 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals.

“They’re both aggressive off the dribble,” says Reimer referring to Cavill and Molzhon. “We ride them offensively.” Reimer also credited Becker for a strong game as she came back from a kee injury she suffered last year.

It was a near error free night for the Lady Hawks as Cavill had zero turnovers and the team had 12 assists.

On Saturday, Thompson Falls fell to Eureka 39-61.

On the boys side the Bluehawks also split both their games, losing a close game to Troy on the road 40-41 and beating Eureka 62-52. Chris Pavlik led the Bluehawks with 11 points against Troy, while Mike Wood was dominant against Eureka scoring 21 total points.

Both teams are now 1-1 in conference heading into the Christmas break. Play will resume again in January.
