Horsemen show Bluehawks they mean business

The Plains Horsemen proved to be just too much for the Thompson Falls Bluehawks Friday evening.

Plains defeated their District 7-B and inter-county rivals 64-44 at Thompson Falls on their senior night.

The Horsemen came out strong, knowing that anything can happen when they are matched up against Thompson Falls. Previous games and records don’t make a difference in this rivalry, as oftentimes the underdog comes out victorious.

In the first quarter of the game Plains scored a fast 17 points, while Thompson Falls came out with 11 of their own. In the second quarter, Plains continued on with their momentum scoring 13 points and holding the Bluehawks to seven. Trent Thompson scored 10 points in the first half and led all scorers in the first half, bringing the score at halftime to 30-18.

After the half, the Plains Horsemen came out strong as they scored a blistering 19 points and held the Bluehawks to just 12. Things were closer in the fourth quarter, but no where near close enough for Thompson Falls to overcome their deficit. Plains scored 15 Points and Thompson Falls scored 14.

Mitch Thompson scored 11 of his points in the second half of the game as the Horsemen moved to 6-1 in league play and 16-1 overall as they prepare for the district tournament this weekend.

With the loss Thompson Falls moved to 5-3 in league play and 12-6 overall.

Mitch Thompson led all scorers with 17 points and was followed closely behind by Trent Thompson who had 16. Other scorers for the Horsemen were Conor Ballantyne with 11, Dillon Fryxell with nine, Ben Holland with five, Brian Green with four, and Bryce Benson with two.

The Thompson Falls Bluehawks were led by Nate Nigh who had 12 points. Chuck Clark was the only other Bluehawk to score in double digits with 11. Other scorers for the Bluehawks were John Buckingham with six, Chris Molzhon with five, Skyler Kinkade and Dillon Gerstenberger each with three, and Mike Wood and Hayden Cristaldi each with two.

The Horsemen and the Bluehawks will both be competing this weekend at the District 7-B tournament in Libby, where the Horsemen have clinched a number one seed.
