The St. Regis Lady Tigers lost a close game against the Victor Lady Pirates at home Friday evening, playing through some sickness and down a player.

“Overall I think they played pretty well,” said Lady Tigers Head Coach Kevin Managhan.

Early in the game the Lady Tigers had some difficulty breaking through the Lady Pirates full-court press, and the Lady Pirates held a six-point lead through much of the first quarter.

Managhan said that once the team started executing their planned press-breaker properly they made a comeback, only allowing themselves to be outscored 13 – 10 in the first quarter.

Lady Tigers Morgan Hill, Juliana Spencer, Brianna Managhan, Brittany Smith and Tyler Cheesman all scored in the first quarter.

Trailing the Lady Pirates closely again in the second quarter, the Lady Tigers were outscored 13 – 11, but  kept close behind the Lady Pirates at 26 – 21.

Jacqueline Norman, Hill, Spencer, Managhan and Smith all scored for the Lady Tigers in the second quarter.

The Lady Pirates continued to gain small amounts of headway in the second half, growing their lead by outscoring the Lady Tigers 19 – 16 in the third quarter for a 45 – 37 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Norman, Managhan, Smith and Cheesman all scored in the third quarter for the Lady Tigers.

Despite some tough effort for a comeback in the fourth quarter, the Lady Pirates outscored the Lady Tigers 18 – 17 and won the game 63 – 54.

Norman, Spencer, Managhan, Smith and Cheesman all scored in the fourth quarter.

Managhan led the team in scoring with 24 points, while Smith brought in eight points, Cheesman brought in seven points, Spencer brought in six points, Norman brought in five points and Hill brought in four points.

“She’s been playing really strong for us,” Kevin Managhan said about his daughter’s performance in Friday night’s game.

Missing from Friday night’s game was one of the Tigers starting layer, Leandra Baldwin, who was not on the court due to a team policy issue.

“Her quickness helps us out a lot but the other girls stepped up and they played well,” Managhan said about Baldwin’s absence.

Several members of the team were visibly suffering from a cold Friday evening. Brianna Managhan even took a fourth quarter break to deal with how under the weather she was feeling, only to return to the game moments later to prove her mettle.

“We had a little problem with energy because they’ve been fighting this cold all week but I think overall they played really well.” said Kevin Managhan.

After Friday night’s game Managhan said that the team’s plays are really starting to come together now and despite their loss Friday night’s game proved that the Lady Tigers can play a strong game.

“They’re understanding now that if you execute the way things are designed they’ll work for you,” Managhan said.
