Lady Tigers fight hard

The St. Regis Lady Tigers lost two hard fought games during the Western Montana District 14 – C Basketball Tournament in Ronan last week.

Thursday evening the Lady Tigers faced off against the Noxon Lady Red Devils for a tough game.

The Lady Tigers started out neck and neck with the Lady Red Devils behind only one point at 9 – 8 in the first quarter. The Lady Red Devils built on their lead in the second quarter by outscoring the Lady Tigers 15 – 5 for a 24 – 13 lead heading into the second half.

The third quarter of Thursday night’s game proved to be disastrous for the Tigers, with the Lady Red Devils outscoring them 21 – 4 for a 45 – 17 lead.

The Lady Tigers played tough and stayed in the game in the fourth quarter, scoring 16 points to the lady Red Devil’s 18 points to come out of the game behind 63 – 33.

Brianna Managhan led the Lady Tigers offensively with 14 points on the board.

The Lady Tigers second game came on Saturday night when they faced off against their rivals, the Superior Lady Bobcats.

While the Lady Tigers held a lead over the Lady Bobcats for much of the first quarter, the Lady Bobcats broke away at the end of the first quarter to take a 14 – 7 lead. Both teams posted eight points in the second quarter, sending the Lady Tigers into the second half of the game behind 22 – 15.

“Regis played hard and it took us a while to settle down into the game,” said Lady Bobcats Coach Jeff Schultz.

The Bobcats took a decisive lead in the third quarter with a  break that helped them outscore the Lady Tigers 18 – 6. The Lady Bobcats again outscored the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter 9 – 4 for a 49 – 25 win.

“Both sides were fighting tooth and nail for every rebound,” Schultz said.

Morgan Hill led the Lady Tigers in scoring with eight points, followed by Tyler Cheesman with five points. Managhan pulled down eight rebound for the Tigers in their game against the Lady Bobcats.

The Lady Tigers finished up the season 2 – 18.
