The Noxon Red Devils just couldn’t outlast the Superior Bobcats Saturday night at Superior. The Bobcats were able to defeat Noxon 51-37 and win the battle for the top spot in District 14-C play.
With the loss Noxon fell to 5-1 in league play and 7-5 overall, while Superior moved to 4-0 in league play and 6-3 overall.
The fourth quarter is what killed the Red Devils as they only scored on free throw during the entire eight minutes. The game started off neck and neck as both teams scored nine points in the first quarter. Superior pulled slightly ahead in the second quarter, scoring 14 points to Noxon’s 12 and taking a two-point lead into the half.
Coming out of half time, the game continued to be extremely close with Noxon scoring 15 points to Superior’s 16, giving Superior just a three point advantage heading into the final quarter. However, it all fell apart for Noxon in the fourth as they only scored one point and Superior scored 12.
Cody Linderman was the high scorer for Noxon with 16 points and Jason Allen scored 11. Other scorers included Bryant Eaton with six, Chris Herbig with three and Banks Stocking with one.
Head Coach Mike Tessier said his team had a strong game, despite what happened in the fourth quarter.
“There is no question that we just fell apart in the fourth,” he said. “Superior is a really tough team and it was a very hard and athletic game for the first three quarters, we just got run down.”
Tessier said he was still proud of his team and that he has been happy with their performance so far this season.
“We’ve done great so far this season,” he said. “We only have one loss in the district and I’m feeling really good with how our team has been playing going into the second half of the season.”
