Closer to the goal

The Plains softball team has been struggling to meet a financial goal in order to continue to play this year. They need to raise $6,000 to be able to compete this season and recently received a grant for $3,000 of it from Plum Creek.
“Our major cost is transportation,” Viki Spencer, coach, said.
After finding out last year that the levy failed the team along with Spencer has been doing different things to try to raise money according to Keaton Jones. Jones is one of the senior captions for the team and has been for three years. The team had a spaghetti dinner, has held bake sales and plans to help put on the Valentines Day dinner with the Assembly of God Church.
“We will just be working to get a donation,” Jones said.
The $3,000 brings the team close to having $5,000, so close to their goal.
John DeLeo, who presented the check to Jones Jan. 23, said that Plum Creek has a revolving program. DeLeo said that they evaluate quarterly and look for those that are needy and are a good cause.
Jones was extremely excited about the generous donation.
“I’ve been trying to steal track girls so that we can have a JV and a varsity this year,” Jones said.
She added that the money would be used to pay for things like coaching, equipment and travel. Anyone that would like to make a donation and get the team a little closer to their goal can call Viki Spencer at 826-3804.
