The Superior Lady Bobcats came out on top in a home game against the St. Regis Lady Tigers Thursday evening.

“I thought they played really well together tonight,” said Lady Bobcats Head Coach Jeff Schultz.

The lady Bobcats took the lead early in the game and held onto it, outscoring the Lady Tigers 17 0 7 in the first quarter. Ashley Blaylock, Tamera Rennick, Kaila Smith and Jessica Taylor all scored for the Lady Bobcats in the first quarter. Brianna Managhan, Tyler Cheesman and Brittany Smith each scored for the Lady Tigers in the first quarter.

The Lady Bobcats widened their lead over the Lady Tigers to 38 – 23 by the end of the second quarter with points from Jessica Yarnall, Caitlin Bailey, Ashley Taron, Rennick, Taylor, Smith and Blaylock. Leandra Baldwin, Morgan Hill, Managhan, Cheesman and Smith all scored for the Lady Tigers in the second quarter.

The Lady Bobcats took serious control of the game in the third quarter when they widened their lead to 65 – 33 over the Lady Tigers. Shelby Cooper, Kailtyn Koke, Rennick, Smith, Taylor, Bailey, Blaylock and Yarnall all scored for the Lady Bobcats. Juliana Spencer, Cheesman, Managhan and Smith all scored points for the Lady Tigers in the third quarter.

The Lady Bobcats finished off the game as strong as ever with an 82 – 39 lead over the Lady Tigers. Cooper, Bailey, Yarnall, Rennick, Taylor and Koke all scored for the Lady Bobcats in the fourth quarter. Managhan brought in all six points for the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter.

“They did really good tonight, but my goodness did we foul,” said Schultz.

The lady Bobcats fouled against the Lady Tigers 28 times throughout the game.

“They weren’t playing hard fouls, they were fouls that we knew we shouldn’t make,” Schultz said.

Smith led the Bobcats in scoring for the game with 16 points.

“The girls shot really good tonight, especially shooting from the outside and that’s what we’ve been practicing,” Schultz said.

He added that the Lady Bobcats defensive playing helped them solidify their Thursday win.

“Really what we felt is that we played some good defense tonight and that’s what won this for us,” Schultz said.

Manghan led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 12 points for the evening.

“St. Regis did really good too. They just play with so much heart, that’s what I like about them,” Schultz said

Lady Tigers Head Coach Kevin Managhan said that the Lady Tigers played a tough game but the little errors throughout the night held them back.

“It was a multitude of things, poor passing and poor execution,” Managhan said. “I’ve seen some good things in our offense and our defense that if we can sustain it for four quarters we’ll be tough.”

Managhan said that the Spencer played well in Thursday night’s game, and is really coming into her own which is difficult for a freshman playing varsity games.

“Juliana really stepped up tonight. She’s been a little intimidated but especially today she’s really come out of her shell,” Managhan said.
