A two-vehicle accident slowed traffic on Highway 28 Friday evening.

The crash occurred on Highway 28 near mile marker 64 at approximately 5: 40 p.m.

Jordan Sampson was traveling westbound on Hwy 28 when his car crossed the center line and side-swiped an oncoming vehicle.

Sampson’s car then traveled another 20 feet or so before ending up facing the opposite direction in a ditch on the right  side of the highway.

Several 911 calls were made by numerous neighbors and people who were passing the accident in their cars.

The driver of the black SUV that Sampson hit, Steve Verity said he saw Sampson coming and all he could do was slam on his brakes.

Verity was traveling with his two sons, Harrison and Michael from Washington to a friend’s house just one mile from the scene of the accident.

As soon as the accident occurred, the Verity brothers exited their vehicle and immediately ran to the assistance of Sampson, who was visibly injured with numerous cuts and lacerations.

Misty Estill, a student in an EMT class, was passing by the crash site when pulled over to offer her assistance.

Amy Gray, who serves on the Hot Springs Ambulance crew was also driving by when she saw Sampson in need of immediate medical attention.

Rescue crews arrived and immediately began assessing the damage to both vehicles and taking statements from the parties involved.

Lee Mercier cut the battery cable in Sampson’s car to disconnect the power to prevent a fire from being sparked.

Members of the PPRFD stopped traffic on either side of the highway to prevent any further accidents while crews worked to clean up the debris and remove the vehicles.

Sampson’s car was totaled with heavy damage to the front of the vehicle.

Sampson managed to walk away from the crash with only minor cuts and lacerations to his face, head and arms.

The three passengers of the other vehicle involved were uninjured.
