Ninth annual silent auction set for T Falls

| November 18, 2009 12:00 AM

Get ready to place your bids!   The 9th annual Silent Auction sponsored by the Friends of the Thompson Falls Library begins on Tuesday, November 24th. This is a ten day event that will culminate on Saturday, December 5th at 5:00 p.m. The auction will be held this year in the new annex room, which is located adjacent to the library and will be open Tuesday through Saturday during regular library hours.. This is always an exciting event and a local favorite, and this year’s auction promises to have something for everyone in every price range. 85 items are up for bidding, including amazing themed baskets, many works by local artists, unique individual pieces, a beautifully restored antique rocker, handmade furniture, and numerous quilted and hand crafted items. Many local businesses supported the cause with donations or gift  certificates for services. Whether you’re interested in the outdoors (winter wear, gardening, birds, workshop), or the indoors (family game night, Twilight books and movie, beading, spa time, home decor), dining out, or cooking in and regardless of whether  you’re shopping for a woman in your life or more manly pursuits, this auction has it all, and then some!

It’s really fun and easy to participate in the Silent Auction. Just ask the auction volunteer for a bidder card that’s your “secret number” - and put your number and a dollar amount on the bidding card next to the item you want. You’re welcome to check back often to see if someone’s outbid you. In past auctions, winning bids have ranged anywhere from $20 to $200 or more, depending on the item and the bidding competition.

Back by popular demand is the kids’ raffle table with 17 very special, kid-friendly items. It’s a “kids-only” raffle, so you have to be under 18 to bid. Kids can purchase tickets at 25 cents apiece or five for a dollar, and place them in the can that corresponds to the item they’d like to win. Kids’ gifts include stuffed animals, candy, toys, games and gifts to give to mom or dad.

Once again, Char Rowe and friends at the Quilting House have donated a lovely handmade queen-size quilt which is being raffled off at $5 per ticket.

Making another comeback for this year’s auction is a raffle for a complete turkey dinner for six donated by Fred Boon at Harvest Foods, and accompanied by a beautiful, festive table runner crafted by Jackie Beckman. Tickets  for this raffle are $1 apiece or six for $5. Tickets for the quilt and holiday dinner are available now at the library and will be sold in the annex during the auction. The winning tickets for both raffles will be pulled at 5:00 p.m. on December 5th.

Karen Harlan, coordinator for this year’s Silent Auction, invites everyone to visit the auction, and says, “It’s a great way to shop locally, put some money back into our community, have fun, and have a bit of a gamble at the  same time. 100% of the proceeds from the auction are for the benefit of our local library which we all love so much. We purchase equipment and provide services that the library’s general budget can’t support, including books, software, furniture, online programs,  summer reading program prizes and so much more. Participating in the Silent Auction is a lot of fun, it’s for a good cause, and you can get some really terrific items not available anywhere else. Come see us in the Library Annex!”
