Pets that giggle! Do you have some too

| November 25, 2009 12:00 AM

I came into the house this morning after spending an hour feeding, watering and exercising ten of our twenty-four dogs. My son exercises the other fifteen. It was down right miserable. Cold, windy and rainy.

Last week, we finished up a shed (shelter) for the five horses my son is caretaker of. Same weather as this morning only more wind.

My husband Bob is our “Bird Man”. He feeds and waters a million birds-year round.

We had a wild cat adopt us last spring. Of course, she’s a young female so we’ve had two batches of kittens. We all take turns feeding them. Heather even made little beds for them.

We re-covered the dog pens and added straw so they’d be warm. Here we were, my son and I, out before daylight, making sure all the little critters were warm and comfy for the day, but we were freezing our butts off.

What’s wrong with this picture? First, it helps to be smarter than your critters. Which, we obviously are not. We busted our heinies for them, but failed to make a shelter for ourselves.

We are rewarded, however. The horses leave little apples all over the clean straw. The dogs leave poo piles everywhere. The cats keep changing their house, so we have to hunt to feed them. Then, there’s the birds. They are very considerate. They sing pretty songs, they play and entertain the cats, but they save all their winter poo to drop on our cars all summer long.

Oh well, we may be dumber than dirt, but we love our little critters, even the deer, bear, foxes, skunks, big horned sheep, mountain lions, coyotes, beavers, raccoons and otters who travel through.

Do you think animals don’t giggle? Well, the animals on our “Funny Farm” sure do.

Enjoy your critters, but, watch out for them. They may throw a giggling fit at any moment.

Although we’ve had problems with the horses being “tazzed” and four of our dogs killed, and the law does nothing. We’ll go on enjoying and loving what we have left.

The point of all this, did we build us a shelter? Oh, hell no! That would make too much sense.

Love your pets
