Plains-Paradise Players set to present annual Christmas show

| November 25, 2009 12:00 AM

If you’re looking for fun, variety, and the meaning of Christmas, then you’ll have no farther to go than the old brick school house on top of the hill in Paradise.

The Plains-Paradise Players, duly noted for their successful production of “The Wizard of Oz” in April, will be presenting their annual Christmas variety show and plays. The “Players”, a community theater group, was started years ago by Ruth Winkler and Mary Lou Hermes to provide an opportunity for local thespians to express their talents. Originally, it began as a way for former Paradise Grade School students, who Winkler and Hermes had worked with for years, to continue developing their talents by providing the community with good clean fun and wholesome entertainment. Over the years, the group has expanded to include anyone in the vicinity who would like to participate.

This year’s entertainment includes a variety show with an assortment of talent from local performers of all ages, including singing, instrumental, and dance routines. They will also bring you the fun of a short skit entitled, “The Christmas Wish”, about what greed can cost you if you let it. To end the evening, they promise you’ll find the real meaning of Christmas along with the detective Sam Heart in a comedy entitled, “The Case of the Missing Meaning”.

The cast of over forty-five will represent Sam Heart the detective, Miss Lee his secretary, Miss Christina D’Amour, the hot dame who hires Sam, and all the crazy characters Sam meets along the way. This includes the toys, gift wrappers, clerks, customers, and Santa at Schwartz’s Department Store, Sam’s old partner Milo Shooter and his not-so-friendly family, and members of a local church practicing for the Christmas pageant. When none of these people seem to have the answer, Sam thinks he has failed his case. Will he find the true meaning of Christmas before his deadline? Come find out by joining us for a very special evening of talent, fun, and food.

Joining the cast for the first time are seasoned actors Jack and Connie Grimm, of Plains, who recently finished a successful show for the Thompson Falls Community Theater.

There is always room for one more so if anyone would like to join in there is still time to add children the to singing Christmas toys or adults as members of the church choir. Please contact Ruth Winkler at 826-5729 if you’re interested.

All of this will take place on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at the Paradise Grade School gym beginning at 7 p.m. As always, admission is free. If you would like to bring a plate of your favorite Christmas goodies to share, it would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance for your support and we hope to see you there.
