Hot dogs on Halloween
Halloween spooks and scares are right around the corner, but before letting your kids fill their bellies with an abundance of trick-or-treat candy, why not have some free dinner first?
On Saturday, October 31 the Plains Lion’s Club is putting on their annual wiener roast at Fred Young Park at 6:00 p.m. The event includes a plethora of hot dogs, free to any and all who come to the event, two firepots going and a costume judging contest for kids ten years and younger.
The first place winner of the costume contest will receive a savings bond, the second place winner will receive $10 in cash and third place will get $5 in cash. Judges are members of the Lion’s Club and attendees at the event.
“The wiener roast is for everybody, it’s not just the kids, we include the adults and those people that haven’t had supper will have a bunch of hot dogs till we run out and we don’t limit any amount,” said Al Amundson, Plain’s Lions Club member.
Also taking place at Fred Young Park will be the new event to Plains in the past few years called Trunk-or-Treat. Any and all are welcome to decorate the trunks of their cars, SUVs, trailers and vehicles of any kind and back them up into Fred Young Park for all people at the park to view.
This event is put on by the Plains Chamber of Commerce and was started a few years ago. Last year there were four cars who participated, but the ideal goal is to have enough vehicles to surround the whole park.
The point of having the decorated trunks surround the park is to provide safety for the kids while they play at the park Halloween night and stop them from running into the street, said Carol Day, this year’s Trunk-or-Treat Organizer.
The kids get to judge the trunks, and the winner will receive $50 in chamber script, which is money that can be used at local businesses.
Trunk-or-Treat will begin at 5:30 on Saturday night.
